We won’t know whether Dudley will appear as Petunia until the film opens in the UK next week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’ll probably see if she does appear in the film, we’ll see if they decide to use her,” director Richard Curtis told the publication.
“I think it’s really cool, I really do.”
In the film Dudley is seen playing with his brother, Al, a budding wizard.
The brothers then find out that their Aunt Pet, who they love, is a witch who was involved in a death curse.
Curtis, who previously directed the animated hit Aladdin, has a long history of making family films, including the popular Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which grossed more than $3.5bn at the worldwide box office.
He is known for bringing characters from different generations to life, including Peter Pettigrew, the titular character from the Harry Potter series.
He said that he felt the film would “bring some joy” to children and adults alike.
“We’re making a film about an orphanage, we’re bringing to life the stories that we grew up with,” he said.
“And we’ve got a couple of really amazing young actors in the cast, so I think there’s a real chance that you’re going to love it.”
‘I’d love to do it again’Dudley’s Aunt Sally was played by a teenage actress, Natalie Wood, who was then 17 years old.
When asked if he would ever do a family film again, Curtis replied: “Absolutely.”
“I’d be up for it again.
It was fun to do, but I’m a huge fan of family films,” he added.
‘Weird as hell’ ‘Aunt Petunia’ will be released in UK cinemas on December 7, 2018.
